“He had dark hair and eyes, which were pretty enough, but he had a rough complexion and somewhat childlike features, as if he never completely matured far past sixteen. His expression was always slanted, his one eyebrow raised and his smile skewed as if he knew an amusing secret about every person in the room.”
Yes! More Chester Gangfield!
Sort of like a pseudo-cartoony fake 19th century photo (with a URL in the corner).
You know, like animated film posters, where the cartoons are hyper shaded. LOVE THOSE!!!
Please be kind, guys!!
It's the first time I've ever done anything like this. Been staring at this thing for the past two weeks straight so I admit I've lost all objectivity.
If I've gone river rafting in the uncanny valley, let me know and I'll take this down.
Countless references used, but nothing for the specific angle or expression. Had to wing it a bit. I've never learned more in the course of a single painting than I did with this one, and I've never had to start over as many times. Definitely a learning experience. Still a few things that are wonky, but I'm tired now.
I might limp back to this in a few months and fix my mistakes.
Stained paper textures from an ImagineFX DVD from sometime in 2011.
